Infrastructure is a set of interconnected structural elements that provide a framework supporting an entire structure. If a community is a living entity, its citizens being its heart, then its civil infrastructure is the circulatory and nervous system that keeps the body in motion. Water, Sewer, Energy, Roads, Bridges; these are the facilities that keep business and life flowing in our community. Civil Infrastructure is the foundation for the building blocks of a society, and must be maintained and preserved.
The Ellipse Award for the improvement of Quality of Life through infrastructure was founded in 2007, and will be bestowed annually by Pennoni Associates to a member of the community who has improved the quality of life of those around him or her through pioneering or innovative approaches to civil infrastructure development or redevelopment. Improved infrastructure impacts job creation and improves living conditions in a community, and has a ripple effect that spreads to other surrounding communities.
